Safecities – Manenberg in Cape Town, South Africa was founded in 2008 by Joseph L. Stanford and a group of concerned residents, as a sister organization of TARGET Area DevCorp. Safecities of the Manenberg region work focuses on, community organizing, leadership development, demonstration projects, and supportive services for residents and stakeholder of the Manenberg community.
Current Issues and programs include:
1. Feeding Scheme – Food distribution program that provide emergency food for over 300 families per week.
2. Drop-Out Pogram – provides life skills training, hands on skills development, counseling and crafts
3. Violence Prevention – Works with resident leaders and other committees to reduce drug and gang activity in the community
4. Youth Program – Provide daily educational and recreational activities for school age children
